A PDF Imagetext (commonly referred to as an “image-only PDF” or “scanned PDF”) is a document where the text is trapped inside a flat photograph or scanned image. While you can clearly see and read the words on the screen, your computer treats the entire page as a single picture. Because of this, you cannot highlight, copy, search, or edit individual words. How to Tell If a PDF is an Image or Real Text
The Highlight Test: Try dragging your mouse cursor over a sentence. If you cannot highlight separate characters or lines, it is an image.
The Search Test: Press Ctrl + F (or Cmd + F on a Mac) and type a common word like “the”. If the tool returns zero results even though you see the word on the page, the PDF has no digital text layer. How to Turn PDF Imagetext Into Real, Editable Text
